CSC 0100 - First Year Seminar- Computing1 lecture hours 0 lab hours 0 credits Course Description This seminar course introduces students to concepts and strategies that support success in programming courses. Weekly meetings will include panel discussions from current students, alumni, faculty, and industry representatives. Students will learn about the differences between computing majors, minors, and other potential curricular pathways. Other topics will include study and time management strategies, problem solving, where and how to find help, advising and registration, internships and careers, and many more topics. Prereq: None Coreq: CSC 1110 or CSC 1110A or first term at MSOE in a computing major Note: None This course meets the following Raider Core CLO Requirement: None Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Know how to leverage MSOE services to get help in classes
- Understand which student organizations are a good fit for fostering extracurricular growth
- Grow academic and professional network
- Identify and implement strategies to improve grades on programming assignments and exams
- Know how to leverage online resources to enhance learning and avoid plagiarism
- Identify goals for time investing to ensure curricular success
- Implement strategies to enable internship and career goals
- Understand differences between computing majors
- Identify potential curricular options that augment the primary major such as minors and graduate work
- Connect with their academic advisor and sign up for courses for future terms successfully
