CAE 6512 - Stability of Structures3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course presents analytical, numerical and energy analysis approaches to the stability of structural members and frames. The student will explore concepts of bifurcation, critical loading, elastic and inelastic buckling of beams and columns, buckling of plates and shells, and effects of practical conditions such as restraints and imperfections. Prereq: CAE 3511 (quarter system prereq: AE/CV 6210) Note: None Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain fundamental concepts of stability and equilibrium
- Formulate solutions for stability of columns, beams, and frames
- Evaluate structural systems using analytical, numerical and energy approaches
