NUR 6220 - Advanced Physical Assessment

Course Description
This course focuses on in-depth study and experience in advanced health assessment. It utilizes a holistic approach that utilizes comprehensive physical, psychosocial, and cultural assessment across the lifespan to gather specific data relevant to common health problems. Students will explore creative means to collect data which consider the unique attributes of each individual. The utilization of critical thinking and clinical reasoning assessments are used to determine optimal client care.

Course Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
  • Develop advanced knowledge of the problem-solving approach to the collection, synthesis, and communication of data gathered, both oral and written
  • Compile a comprehensive assessment document which includes age-appropriate history, physical examination, laboratory and diagnostic studies
  • Create an individualized plan of care using differential diagnoses which provide the groundwork that leads to positive patient outcomes
  • Apply critical reasoning approaches to advanced health assessment and patient-centered care
  • Perform advanced assessment techniques, and document findings, specific to the various systems presented in this course
  • Utilize appropriate technologies to effectively collect accurate assessment data
