CVE 6831 - Facilities Planning3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course presents an overview of the facilities planning process for environmental and water resources protection and transportation enhancement. Such facilities planning appears under a variety of names including combined sewer overflow abatement plans, wastewater treatment facilities plans, water supply master plans, Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) studies, flood management plans, transportation master plans, transportation improvement plans. The focus of such plans starts with collecting background data and developing a detailed understanding of the current situation. Often the planning process involves developing sophisticated computer models which are used to identify deficiencies and assess the potential benefits of new facilities. Watershed-based facilities plans simultaneously address storm water management, collection systems, flooding, non-point and point-source pollutant sources to achieve a required level of performance within an entire watershed. Transportation focused facilities plans may address motor vehicles, bicycles and pedestrians, railroads, airports, and seaports. Prereq: None Note: None Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
