CAE 6514 - Theory of Elasticity3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course expands on the fundamental concepts of solid mechanics. The course includes in-depth consideration of the equations that describe the states of stress, strain, and deformation within an elastic deformable body. Solutions realized fall into the realm of advanced and applied mathematics, and the applications of the solutions are relevant for many areas of engineering. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Explain fundamental concepts of solid mechanics and their underlying theories
- Formulate the fundamental equations of elastic behavior
- Evaluate results from numerical solutions (e.g., finite element solutions)
