CON 3021 - Construction Estimating2 lecture hours 2 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course teaches the methodology, procedures, and organizational techniques involved in preparing a competitive bid. Detailed estimates for each major construction discipline are prepared, based upon real construction project documents. Ethical considerations in budgeting and estimating are discussed. The final project is the preparation of a formal competitive bid on a project. (prereq: CAE 1871 , CAE 1872 , junior standing) (quarter system prereq: CM 2200, junior standing) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Select appropriate estimating methods based on project circumstances
- Explain the bidding process
- Formulate a quantity survey
- Evaluate drawings and specifications
- Discuss the various costs of work
- Develop ways to qualify subcontractor quotes
- Integrate quantity survey, subcontractor quotes, and risk assessment into a cost estimate
- Develop bidding strategies
- Explain the ethical implications of the budgeting, bidding, estimating process
