BE 4962 - Fundamentals of Medical Imaging

Course Description
This course serves as an introduction to medical imaging systems commonly used in clinical settings.  The course covers the hardware, design, and operation of common medical imaging systems such as X-Ray and Computed Tomography as well as the fundamentals of image processing in spatial and frequency domains. Common medical imaging systems and image processing methods such as histogram analysis, image filtering, registration, and segmentation are discussed. Throughout the course, imaging concepts will be illustrated using visualization of various physiological systems commonly examined with the modality being studied. These examples will include discussion of appropriate image acquisition procedures and relevant types of imaging artifacts.  (prereq: BE 4961  (or BI 1010 , BI 1020 , BI 1030 , and BI 2040 ) or (BI 2306  and BI 2316 ))
