BI 256 - Microbiology3 lecture hours 3 lab hours 4 credits This course introduces students to the basics of microbiology and its importance in health care. Concepts like microbial characteristics and pathogenesis, and general and specific immune reactions to bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites are introduced. Epidemiology and infection control of the more common microbial diseases are also covered. The laboratory includes topics of microscopy, staining techniques, and elements of microbial nutrition, growth, metabolism and antibiotic sensitivity. (prereq: BI 102 )
