BE 2000 - Biomedical Engineering Design I1 lecture hours 0 lab hours 1 credits Course Description This course is the first in a series of seven design courses that comprise the BE design sequence. In this course, particular emphasis is placed on design team formation, problem definition, identification of customers and customer needs, and literature review. In particular techniques for systematically searching trade, medical and engineering literature will be described. Project management techniques and budgeting, as well as FDA requirements for medical device design documentation will be covered. The course ends with team presentations defining their project objectives. (prereq: BE 1000 ) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- List and apply the general steps in the engineering design process
- Perform as an effective member of a design team
- Be proficient in the use of basic general and engineering software applications
- Have basic written and oral communications skills
- Maintain an engineering logbook
