TC 453 - Intercultural Communication3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description The objective of this course is to develop effective communicators who can recognize, analyze, and resolve intercultural conflicts. With a focus upon increased globalization and the changing nature of the nation’s population, students are taught to adapt to unfamiliar cultures and establish ways and means for effective communication. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Understand how culture, in and of itself, influences communication and how it interacts with social, psychological and environmental factors to influence communication
- Explain cultural similarities and differences in communication
- Understand cultural issues that affect communication effectiveness
- Recognize ethical issues in communicating with someone from a different culture or ethnic group
- Have improved intercultural communication skills
