PH 863 - Electronic Materials and Devices3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Four broad areas covered in this course are: the crystal structure of solids, electronic properties of solids, the principles of p-n junctions and semiconductor devices and integrated-circuit technology. Specific topics covered include: space lattices and crystal structure, the energyband theory of solids, theory of the p-n junction, semiconductor diodes, zener diodes, varactor diodes, light-emitting diodes, solar cells, bipolar unction transistors, junction and insulatedgate field-effect transistors, and integrated-circuit design potentials and limitations. (prereq: graduate standing or consent of instructor, one year of college physics)
