MI 17040 - Strategic Leadership2 lecture hours 4 lab hours 4 credits Course Description In this course, students will gain an overall understanding of the key leadership and management competencies that are necessary in today’s health care environment. Topics will include financial and strategic planning; team development and management; analysis of ethical, social, and legal implications of decisions; and the importance of effective governance in achieving strategic goals. (prereq: none) Course Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Develop an organizational informatics strategy (clinical, technical, and administrative), including ethical, legal, and social considerations
- Create a budget that reflects the necessary resources to implement an informatics strategy
- Based on the needs to implement an organizational informatics strategy, compile a list of the personnel skill sets needed, as well as a structure for the reporting relationships for these personnel
- Propose a governance structure for overseeing an organizational informatics strategy
