MS 3010 - Introduction to Health Care Industry3 lecture hours 0 lab hours 3 credits Course Description This course provides an overview of the healthcare industry in the USA. Healthcare is one of the largest and most complex industries and does not operate like other businesses. The goal of any healthcare system is to provide essential healthcare services to the entire population. Covered topics include the conceptual basis for our healthcare system, its history, the stakeholders (public, private, people and organizations), the role of technology, the issues of cost, access and quality (patient safety), health policy and the future of the system. This course is appropriate for students expecting to work in the healthcare sector (provider, administration, payer, technology, etc.) and especially for those hoping for career advancement.
